NIU NIU POKER

INTRODUCTION

The aim of Niu Niu Poker is to obtain a higher ranked hand than the dealer’s hand, using one standard deck of cards without any Jokers. If hands have the same ranking, the winner will be decided by the highest card in each hand, and if the highest cards are also equal, the suit of the highest card will decide the winner.

  • Card Values: K, Q, and J have a value of 10, an Ace has a value of 1. All other cards retain their face value.
  • Card Ranking: K is the highest, Ace is the lowest.
  • Suit Ranking: Spades (highest), then Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds (lowest).

BETTING OPTIONS

  • The SINGLE bet, with odds of 1:1 less 5% Tax.
  • The DOUBLE bet, with odds of up to 3:1, and 5% tax on payments of 2:1 or higher.
  • The SUPER NIU bet, with odds of up to 10:1, and 5% tax on payments of 2:1 or higher.

INSURANCE

The DOUBLE and SUPER NIU bets can win (but also lose) multiple times the value of the bet placed. To cover the possibility of such a multiplied loss, the DOUBLE and SUPER NIU bets require an additional amount of chips to be placed as “insurance”:

  • The DOUBLE bet could win or lose up to 3 times the amount bet, so requires “insurance” of 3x the bet.
  • The SUPER NIU bet could win or lose up to 10 times the amount bet, so requires “insurance” of 10x the bet.

HOW TO PLAY

The dealer will prepare, shuffle and cut the cards for the next round of play. *Please note that players are not allowed to cut the cards.

To join a round of play, a player must place a compulsory wager on SINGLE. The DOUBLE and SUPER NIU betting options are not compulsory.

The dealer will call No More Bets, then deal 5 cards face-down to each player. Players may only pick up their cards upon the dealer’s instruction. Players may not discuss or exchange their cards with other players. Cards may not leave the table and must remain in full view of the dealer.

Players will arrange their cards into the best possible 3-card hand and 2-card hand. The cards in the 3-card hand must add up to a multiple of ten to qualify as a “Niu”. If a hand has no qualifying 3-card combination, it is considered the lowest ranked hand (High Card).

Once a qualifying 3-card hand has been set, the cards in the 2-card hand will be added together to create the “points”. Only the first digit will be considered when calculating the points, so if the 2-card hand consists of a six and a seven, which add up to 13, the hand will have 3 points (“Niu 3”). The strongest possible hand is a “Niu Niu”, which is a “Niu” hand with the 2 remaining cards adding up to 10 (zero) points.

Players will set their cards on the table, with the 2-card hand closest to the dealer and the 3-card hand directly behind. Once all players have set their cards, the dealer will open and set their own cards. If any hand does not qualify, the highest card in the hand will be placed in front, with the other 4 cards spread behind.

The cards of the dealer and player will be compared to find the hand with the highest rank. Settlement shall be made box by box, starting from the dealer’s right-hand side, working towards the left. Winning and losing bets shall be settled according to the odds displayed. Any multiplied losses from the DOUBLE and SUPER NIU wagers will be taken from the player’s insurance
